On December 23, 2024, we welcomed our second son, Fitzgerald Henry Feighan, affectionately known as Fitz, into the world earlier than expected.

Born at just 26 weeks, Fitz showed strength and resilience from his very first moments. We braced ourselves for the difficult journey ahead, knowing there would be highs and lows, and in those early hours he gave us reason to hope. He was “larger than normal” for his gestational age (the Feighan genes proudly at work), and the NICU nurses told us this could help his progress. With each update, our optimism grew—his oxygen levels remained steady, scans looked encouraging, and we allowed ourselves to believe we might be among the fortunate ones.

But on December 25, 2024, our worst fears were realized. Surrounded by his grandparents, Katy and Alex held Fitz close as his tiny heart took its final beats. Fitz passed peacefully in Katy’s arms, and in that moment, our hearts shattered.

​

Yet even within our immense grief, we are deeply grateful for the precious time we had with him, holding his tiny hand, reading him stories, whispering our love and encouragement, and cradling him until the very end. Fitz, our “little big guy,” fought with incredible strength, and that courage will stay with us always.
